Follow these simple steps to trouble-shoot the most common issues with cameras and microphones.

1. Make sure you are using a supported device and web browser

You can use Notarize.ca with:

  • A PC computer, a Mac computer, an iOS device or an Android device

  • Chrome, Edge or Safari

If you are using Firefox, Internet Explorer or Opera, please switch to Chrome, Edge or Safari.

2. Allow access to your browser's microphone and camera

When you join your online notary appointment, you may see a pop-up requesting access to your microphone and camera. Click Allow.

If you clicked on "Block" or did not see this pop-up, you can change your browser's microphone and camera settings to allow access.

If you need help changing your browser's microphone and camera settings, refer to the browser's help articles:

3. Check your computer's microphone and video settings

If your browser settings allow access to your computer's microphone and video settings but they still aren't working, check your computer's microphone and video settings:

4. Close other videoconferencing programs

If you have any other videoconferencing programs open on your device, such as Zoom, Google Hangouts, Teams or Whereby, make sure they are closed.

If other people are your network are using videoconferencing programs, ask them to close the program if possible.

5. Check your Internet connection speed

Your Internet connection must have an upload and download speed of at least 1 megabit per second (Mbps) for the videoconferencing to work.

You can check your Internet connection speed with Speedtest.

If your upload and download speed is less than 1 Mbps, you'll need to find a faster connection for your online notary session.

6. Delete your browser history, cache and cookies

7. Use your browser in private mode

Finally, log out of your Notary Portal, turn on privacy mode on your browser,

and log back into your Notary Portal
